Primeval axed by ITV

ITV family drama Primeval has been axed after three series.

The show, which starred Douglas Henshall and Hannah Spearritt, followed a group of scientists studying prehistoric creatures and was broadcast on Saturday evenings at teatime.

Its third outing launched on ITV earlier this year, attracting more than 5 million viewers, and ended on June 6.

An ITV spokesman said: “After three very successful series of Primeval there are no plans at the present time for it to return to ITV. High quality drama remains a key part of the ITV schedule although our current focus is on post-watershed productions.”
