Destiny’s Child star Michelle Williams to play Roxie Hart in Chicago
American singer Michelle Williams, best known for performing alongside Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland as part of pop trio Destiny’s Child, is set to make her London stage debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago.
Williams will join the cast of the West End show, which is currently running at the Cambridge Theatre, on July 13 until August 22.
The Grammy Award-winning artist made her stage debut in 2002, following the release of her solo debut album, in the title role of Aida, a Broadway musical that featured music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice. She went on to star in The Colour Purple in Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
The role of Roxie Hart is currently being played by Aoife Mulholland and has previously been portrayed by the likes of Denise Van Outen, Ruthie Henshall and Suzanne Shaw.
Next month, Jerry Springer will make his West End debut in the show as Billy Flynn.
