Cirencester’s Brewery Arts centre has been awarded a £1.5 million grant from Arts Council England, bringing to £2.25 million the total money raised for the site.
The award means staff should be able to start work on long-awaited improvements and a complete upgrade of the venue by the end of the year. Sam Wilkinson, chair of the trustees, described the grant as “a major acheivement for Brewery Arts and all those who have supported us over the past couple of years”.
However, he said that while funds for the project are close to being fully raised, there is some way to go.
Dan Scrivener, the centre’s artistic director, added: “This is not just bricks and mortar. Our improved services will increase the funds available for the work we do out in the community, with local schools, daycare centres and all those unable to come to us.”
