Evidently truncated from Lorca's original, the strong narrative flow remains intact while Katrina Lindsay's spartan design and is a hit and miss affair, creating an uneasy mix of realism against some more bizarre confusing images. Certain performances help to alleviate some of the misgivings aroused by the design while Rufus Norris's direction, albeit strident and purposeful, appears too concerned with theatrics rather than the spirit and passion of the play...
