Even the title is weighted, provocative and ironic: Can We Talk About This? is about a subject that there now seem to be implicit boundaries around discussing, mainly driven by fear. 'Comment is free', says The Guardian website section, but it can cost you as much as your life: ask, or rather you can't because they're dead, people like the Dutch film-maker Theo van Gogh, or numerous people connected to the publication or translation of Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses...
