Richard Harris' endearing tale of a class of amateur tap dancers remains as charming as ever, nearly 30 years after its premiere in 1984. For director/choreographer David Ball's new production, Harris has added a few references to 2011 celebrities and pop culture, but it's a piece that feels firmly wedded to the period it was written in - a time of social divide that belonged to Thatcher's Britain rather than Cameron's, despite similarities. Snobbish Vera in her gold leotard and social services evading Sylvia, tapping in her trainers, couldn't really come from anywhere else...
