One of the great joys of the British stage is its sense of family and continuity, in which the theatrical torch is regularly handed from one generation to the next. This has been movingly embodied by father-and-son Timothy and Samuel West, for instance, once playing father-and-son(s), both biological and cloned, in Caryl Churchill's A Number.
