There is a strong element of variety and music hall to John Bett's nimble adaptation of Neil Munro's original Para Handy tales. An opening scene at the Inverbeg recycling yard turns out to be a theatrical clearing of the throat as, with a nifty change of Annette Gillies' bold, simplistic set, it steps over the TV adaptation and slips back almost a century to a puffer steamer, the Vital Spark, delivering goods along Scotland's west coast...
