Festen may be Danish for celebration, but though it revolves around a family who come together to celebrate the patriarch's 60th birthday, it's an event in which shattering long-buried secrets around a daughter's suicide are finally brought out into the open, and implode the family forever. Originally written as a 1998 film by Thomas Vinterberg and Mogens Rukov, it was subsequently adapted for the stage by the same authors - a Polish language version of that script previously came to Sadler's Wells as part of LIFT in 2002...
