In the programme notes to its production of Much Ado, Immersion Theatre states, "the battle of the sexes is only just beginning". That immediately anchors this staging to a more conventional study of the two youngsters, and their resistance to love, rather than the darker tragedy the text allows. Considering this is co-directed by a man, Rupert Holloway, and a woman, Charlotte Ive, it's hardly surprising. And, as with all battles, there has to be a winner...
