Of the three pieces, Part I is the most engaging, with founder Tao Ye and Wang Hao dressed in long linen robes dancing hand in hand to Steve Reich's Drumming Parts I and IV. Skipping gestures and revolving spins are interrupted by sudden high kicks and rolling head movements before returning to the endlessly repetitive steps that are conducted with playful inscrutability. As their feet and heads are the only parts of their bodies visible beneath the robes, it becomes apparent that the footwork is more complex than it first appears and the overall impact is joyful even as it becomes increasingly agitated.
