A woman waves goodbye behind a large rear-of-stage gauze screen. A man shouts in despair from the bottom of a huge, back-projected well. Shadow waiters pour drinks against a glowing Oriental sun. A running water soundtrack alternates with heaving ocean vistas. The stage erupts into a zany Japanese TV show, Mongolians battling Japanese, or red-coated police wreaking violence on a Tokyo street.
