Nicholas Wright's latest play draws on Caroline Blackwood's book about her stymied attempts to write a piece about the elderly, ailing Duchess of Windsor for the Sunday Times Magazine in 1980. Blackwood clashes with the Duchess's formidable layer, Maitre Suzanne Blum, who refuses her access to her client and won't answer Blackwood's questions. As a result Blackwood becomes increasingly fascinated with Blum herself, with the hold she has over the Duchess - she starts to suspect her of stealing her jewels, and worse, keeping her a prisoner in her own home...
