But it has resisted theatrical musicalisation before, when Hugh Wheeler wrote the book - four years after helping to create Sondheim's masterpiece Sweeney Todd - and John Barry and Don Black respectively wrote the music and lyrics for a notorious Broadway flop, The Little Prince and the Aviator, which closed after 16 previews on Broadway. Black, of course, would go on to far more successful collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, but now Lloyd Webber's son Nicholas, not paying history any heed, has joined forces with James D Reid to co-write a new musical version...
