In the 1860s, a widowed English school teacher takes a job as governess to the huge family of the King of Siam. Certainly, one of the joys of seeing Raymond Gubbay's opulent forays into musical theatre staged in the round at the Royal Albert Hall is to hear the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra go to town with the score, albeit to the detriment of the book, which has suffered badly in the past with poor sound quality...
