The King's Head is continuing its laudable mission to promote and develop new British musicals. However, this sometimes laughable (but grimly sincere) effort does no one any favours, not least a talented and hard-working cast who have to struggle to reconcile its queasy, uneasy mixture of tastelessness and tenacity, as the show tries to engineer our concern for young Sugar, pimped into prostitution on her 13th birthday by her brothel-owning mother, and - just for good measure - also introduces her to drugs at the same time...
