Subtitled an American Opera in Two Acts, Street Scene is Kurt Weill's take on life, seen from the stoop of a Lower East Side brownstone. Based on Elmer Rice's Pulitzer Prize-winning play and leveled somewhere between Catfish Row and Skid Row, Street Scene throws up some colourful characters, whilst the score marries Weill's vaguely atonal idiosyncrasies with momentary melodic references to Gershwin...
