Even today, with all the great strides made towards acceptance in society at large, it is still thought to be an impediment to a mainstream film career for an actor to declare themselves to be homosexual. The likes of Ian McKellen or Jodie Foster remain the exception, rather than the rule, with the celluloid closet still remaining firmly shut for most of the leading gay and lesbian actors working behind it...
