The revival of Arnold Wesker's Roots, 50 years after it was written, is a welcome resurrection of a work too long ignored. Written during a period when new voices, like Osborne and Pinter were emerging, bringing real life on stage, their works were often described as 'kitchen sink dramas'. While there is a working kitchen sink on stage in this production, Wesker is at pains to reject that description...
