Lydia Fox is starring as Undine in The Little Mermaid during its current adaptation at the Greenwich Theatre and is brimming with enthusiasm about the play and the role.
She says: “It’s brilliant and really quite a novel thing - obviously it’s quite an old story but the set is phenomenal and there is lots of physical stuff. There is lots of acrobatics and aerial movement to simulate the sea.”
It is a stark contrast to her last role in Simon Gray’s The Holy Terror which ran at the Duke of York. “The productions are completely different but I think it’s always good to throw yourself in a new direction.”
The Cambridge graduate admits she has no formal acting training but insists it hasn’t held her back. “I just wanted to get on with things so once I made the decision to act, I did.”
Her first professional role was as Viola in Creation’s production of Twelfth Night and since then she has been remarkably successful and lucky in securing more work.
She says: “I just want to stay in theatre - rather than TV and film. I like working with great artists and British theatre has so many. I’m very happy.”
The Little Mermaid will end its national tour in Jersey on October 30.
