Although new to London, Sophie Bould has already gained a leading part in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre.
“My big role is Hermia. Ian Talbot has staged it perfectly and we have made Hermia prim yet feisty and fun.”
Sophie spent a very happy time at Mountview and after graduating played Cinderella at the Bristol Old Vic. She has two other roles at the Open Air - one in Camelot and an intriguing challenge in HenryIV, in which, as Lady Mortimer, she not only talks in Welsh but sings a charming song.
“I didn’t know any Welsh, even though I’m from Shropshire. It’s all phonetic. I worked with a Welsh speaker, listening and repeating. Fortunately Welsh speakers seem to find it alright!”
In her third role she is a mystery.
“Yes, it’s an odd role,” she admits. “I was already working here when they asked me. She just sings to this strange yearning music - and I don’t think she will actually be seen. But this is such a well-mixed experience and good for my musical side. I shall be kept busy, as I am also understudying Guenevere.”
