“I always announce we’re a family act on stage,” says Geoff Winter “But it’s the first thing people ask us afterwards - are you really a family?”
Jinx
The family cabaret/musical act is called Jinx simply because that is the first thing that came into his head when he was asked for a name.
Geoff, daughters Nikki and Gemma and son Ben will soon be packing suitcases and musical instruments for a sixth-month season in Ibiza. They will be appearing at three hotels.
What about mum? “My wife used to be a dancer,” he explains. “Her input is the choreography for when Nikki and Gemma are singing. Plus she does make a lot of the costumes.”
The offspring are all in their twenties. When they were of school age, they spent their summers at holiday camps where Geoff had his own band. One of their playmates was young Robbie Williams, who was spending the holidays with his dad, singer Pete Conway.
“The kids grew up in the business. I never wanted to be away from them and forming a family act became a natural thing,” says Geoff. “It just happened. And we’ve been going for seven years. When I started in the business I was in a family act with my brother and sister - the Winter Mixture - and I still meet people who remember us.”
