Actor Ian Collier had a long career in television and was well known for his roles in Doctor Who. He starred in the Doctor Who story The Time Monster and later became the second actor to portray the villain Omega in the fifth Doctor serial Arc of Infinity. He also played Doctor Who companion Bernice Summerfield’s father, Isaac, in Death and the Daleks.

Collier broke into television in the late sixties. He began making a name for himself in the early seventies, playing roles such as Flight Officer Greve in The Pathfinders and Nigel in The Duchess of Duke Street. He had character roles in Cribb, Fox, Danger UXB, and Minder and, by the eighties, was starring in comedies including Hi-de-Hi!, Are You Being Served? and A Fine Romance.

In the hit drama series Howard’s Way (1986), he was cast as George Travis for several episodes and was Colonel Lipscombe in the mini-series Rules of Engagement (1989).

More recent TV appearances included The Bill, Keeping Up Appearances, Jeeves and Wooster and the Paul Merton series.

He died on October 1.
