Reduction of members

Published Thursday 9 February 2012 at 15:34

I am delighted that Equity is finally biting the bullet and now seriously considering reducing the number of council members (The Stage, February 2, page 5). Having previously been on council (for four years) I know just how difficult it was getting any semblance of order.

Too many voices, too many different opinions, too many councillors who really should not be representing the unions members.

Mind you, I have left the union. Of course there will be those claiming foul. Reds under the beds! A loss of democracy? No. Only good can come out this momentous decision. My respects to general secretary Christine Payne for taking on this mammoth task.
