Is actress now a dirty word?

Published Tuesday 22 June 2010 at 10:50

Bravo to David Suchet and Marc Sinden: “Luvvies” is an inappropriate word to describe members of the theatrical profession (Letters, June 10, page 9). Possibly, as Marc says, it was “coined by the gutter press”.

However, it is nothing like as inappropriate as using the word “actor” to describe female members of the theatrical profession. Possibly coined by some misguided members of our own profession under some mistaken view of political correctness?
