Be thankful Britain’s got talent

The last thing I want to do is to get involved in an argument about the relative merits of Elaine Paige and Susan Boyle - that is something which we can all judge in 20 years’ time - but I must respond to Tony Robin’s rather ungracious comments about Elaine (Bringing it to the Boyle, March 11, page 9).

To suggest that Elaine needed my help to achieve success is ludicrous. When she won the part of Evita ahead of several hundred other applicants, I did not know her at all. Her second big success was in Cats, a show which had nothing to do with me - unfortunately!

Furthermore, I seem to recall that Susan had a little help from Simon Cowell - a gentleman who is considerably more powerful in the entertainment business than I will ever be.

Both ladies are great British talents and it is sad to see the likes of Tony Robin attempt to stir up unpleasant comparisons.
