Magnificent Maggie

Maggie Jones’ memorial service, held in Salford Cathedral, Manchester, on Thursday, February 25, was a wonderful hour of musical and spoken tributes, in addition to hymns, prayers and poetry.

Peter Shaw at ITV Granada organised the event very successfully. Many past and present cast members of Coronation Street came along to pay their respects to the lovely lady many of us just know as Blanche.

Tony Singleton, a long-standing friend of Maggie, and actor William Roache recalled other entertainment credits from her days in rep, plus various TV serials, including The Forsyte Saga. I have my own happy recollections of watching her on television as Polly Barraclough in the drama series Sam.

The tributes were most genuine to a lady held in very high esteem. She will certainly be sadly missed by many people in all areas of life.
