Crossing the lion

Published Tuesday 9 February 2010 at 11:20

How very disappointing to read in this week’s Stage that a prestigious Gold Clown has been given to an animal trainer for his act with 12 lionesses and two lions.

Isn’t it time that these barbaric acts that imprison wild creatures and force them to perform idiotic, humiliating tricks, were outlawed the world over? Anyone who has two lions in a group shows appalling ignorance of lion behaviour, for a pride has one male and at the most four or five females. Two lions will fight, and 12 lionesses are too large a number for a pride. One shudders to think of the stress these unhappy animals must be going through.

When one thinks of the superb human circus acts that are around, it is sickening to think that a Gold Clown should be wasted on a swaggering idiot bullying a group of his fellow creatures.

I hope people all over the world will force these cruel animal acts out of business by boycotting any circus barbaric enough to show them.

Lets relegate animal acts to the dark ages where they belong.
