In reply to the letter from EM Willis (Why Kensal Rise, October 8, page 8) yes, Danny La Rue was closely associated with St Patrick’s Church, Soho, but more importantly Danny’s belief didn’t relate to buildings, it related to the Roman Catholic religion and he would pray and feel at home in its local church, wherever he travelled. Yes, Danny was interred at Kensal Green Cemetery where Jack Hanson and Danny’s family were interred and the Requiem Mass was held at the Church of the Transfiguration nearby.
Danny was also very closely associated with the Catholic Association of Performing Arts, whose principal church is Corpus Christi in Maiden Lane and it was most fitting that the principal celebrant was Father Christopher Vipers (national chaplain of CaAPA) and that Father Peter Stodart of St Augustine’s Church, Tunbridge Wells (latterly, Danny’s local church), gave the Homily. The beautiful service was planned with the greatest consideration to Danny, his faith, his family and friends.
