Female focus

Published Friday 30 October 2009 at 11:30

I have to congratulate BBC executive producer Hilary Salmon for her excellent production of Criminal Justice transmitted five nights in a row from October 5 to 9.

Not only was it excellently written by Peter Moffat and beautifully acted and directed, it was a story told by as many, if not more, female voices as male voices. Gripping from start to finish, it explored in a very balanced way the interaction between men and women in modern society.

Let us hope this is the start of re-dressing the balance between the sexes in the arts, something, as you know - and The Stage has been very supportive - Equity’s membership and staff are behind. Let us now see the start of making necessary changes in theatre too, particularly in the subsidised sector.
