Small but perfectly formed

Published Friday 30 October 2009 at 11:30

Sean Aita asks if there might not exist smaller venues which could benefit from the Peter Brook Awards (October 15, page 8, Reward Smaller Venues).

Oval House Theatre in Kennington, south London, is delighted to have been nominated for this year’s Mark Marvin Rent Subsidy Award alongside the Finborough Theatre and Trafalgar Studio 2. We are particularly pleased as we not only take encouragement and recognition for our work from this Peter Brook Award nomination, but also potentially might win £1,500 to put towards a production we have desired to stage for over a year, a powerful double bill of plays by Che Walker.

We are not habitually a producing venue, and our public subsidy does not extend to the cost of producing productions. Alongside the space, advice and expertise we give to our visiting companies, we are grateful for any additional money we can channel their way - direct to our artists and participating companies.
