Ageist against Arlene

Published Monday 29 June 2009 at 17:30

Two recent news items about the programme Strictly Come Dancing have drawn my attention.

The first, concerns judge Arlene Phillips who is to be replaced by a younger person in order to increase the viewing audience between the ages of 16 to 34.

Is this a possible case of age discrimination? Surely, the age of a judge is irrelevant, it is their knowledge that is the most important factor.

The other item I found fascinating was that Bruce Forsyth may decide to step down as a presenter because the BBC is considering reducing his fee from £900,000 to £400,000. Perhaps the BBC may care to consider this pensioner who is available for considerably less.
