Give Equity a break

Published Monday 10 November 2008 at 18:55

I get The Stage every week and read with interest your various articles on lots of different subjects. Recently I have noticed many people making negative comments about claims and Equity.

To even the balance, I have had the most brilliant support from Tim Johnson, Midlands coordinator for Equity, regarding my recent claim. He was supportive from the very beginning, preparing the case thoroughly with copies of every relevant documents, phone calls, explaining various procedures etc.

On the day of the court case (a couple of weeks ago) he travelled all the way from Coventry to where the case was being held. As I had never gone through a county court procedure before and I was on my own and a little anxious, he continued to put me totally at my ease. In the court room I felt he had the whole case under control and I felt very confident. We won the case. I have been an Equity member for nearly 30 years. I started very young and I am proud to be a full member of Equity Union.

If I can say one more thing apart from thanking Mr Johnson again, it is to urge members to pop along to their local union branches and give them some support. The meetings can be very friendly and interesting, and, with the recession looming over us, can be very helpful.
