Academic emphasis

Published Tuesday 28 October 2008 at 13:05

We would like to adjust a few comments made in the article Learning Curve (October 23, page 6). It indicated that private, full-time specialist schools, such as Sylvia Young Theatre School, spend half of each week on performing arts and work hard on a handful of core subjects for the rest of the term.

In fact, Sylvia Young Theatre School has a heavy emphasis on academic subjects, with three days a week (3/5) on the academic curriculum. Our excellent GCSE results reflect the quality of our academic teachers and the dedication of the students.

In the 2008 GCSE examinations, 100% of our students achieved seven or more A*-C results, with 50% of those results being A*-A. We cover all the core subjects and the majority of students take nine GCSE subjects.
