Sweet Melody

Published Friday 22 August 2008 at 17:50

I read with interest your online obituary of Tony Melody who died on June 30.

Melody was a member of the RAF Gang Shows organised by Ralph Reader during the Second World War. I have a poster promoting a performance by RAF Gang Show Number 9 on July 15, 1945 (unfortunately, there is no mention of the venue).

In this show, Melody worked alongside Tony Hancock and Robert Moreton, amongst others. I also have a number of photographs portraying Melody and Hancock (who was then known as Hank Hancock) in a variety of the Gang Show sketches.

Do any readers of The Stage have memories of any of these performances by RAF Gang Show Number 9? If so, I should be very pleased to hear from you via my email address mrkeithmason@aol.com or through the Tony Hancock Appreciation Society website, www.tonyhancock.org.uk.
