Kitsch in Sync on Last Choir Standing on BBC One Photo: BBC / Guy Levy
The Last Choir Standing is the worst BBC Reality TV programme so far - what on earth do the BBC producers, presenters, viewers, audiences, or the panel of judges, think they are doing? They are musical theatre performers, with the odd dance routine. Does anyone involved actually understand the word ‘choir’?
The competitors seem confused on what is expected of them. No one seems to sing in tune, understands direction or pitch, or even the passion of the songs they are performing.
A suggestion to the panel, tour the country to visit local theatre and see how it should be done - including a visit to see Birkenhead Operatic Society, which includes students, heading for RADA and the West End stage, who return to their roots, because the society is so good, singing, dancing and doing musical performances across the north-west, to great success.
But then we have The Musical Theatre Young Judges of the Year competition finals held every March, at the Rhyl Pavilion, North Wales. Again we have single artists, duets, dance troupes or group singing. Many appear at the Eisteddfod Llangollen each year, also hoping to enter RADA and West End Stage theatre. These are true performers, who give Gold Medal Olympic performances to the paying audiences each time any of them appear.
One further suggestion, watch BBC2 Maestro to see how to do a programme correctly. A calm audience, orchestra, presenter, panel of judges and experts, who all work together, with the artists working to win the competition. It is well put together, confident and knows what is wants from everyone. Thank you BBC2.
