I read with interest and much amusement Patrick Newley’s sentiments about actresses now being called actors (August 14, page 52).

It seems to me quite ironic that the ‘resses’ part should be dropped.
Perhaps the “deluded” (quote) person who came up with the idea was a balding male with attitude.
It’s also the norm these days for a girl and boy who are an item to walk into a pub or party and be welcomed with “Hi guys”. What’s that all about? Are we becoming a one sex world?
Or did Ray Davies (the Kinks) sum it up beautifully 40 years ago when he had the vision to write the lines “Girls will be boys and boys will be girls. It’s the next step now, in this shook-up world”.
At the end of the day, change for change’s sake will always have the traditionalists up in arms. You only have to read the reviews for David Tennant’s latest stage role to see that.
