I was fortunate enough to see God of Carnage quite recently. What a fantastic play - a total joy. I was thoroughly entertained. The play had everything, from perfect casting to marvellously executed performances from all four players.
It was obvious that the entire audience were as bowled over with the play as I was. However, when the final curtain came down and the cast came forward to take their due praise, four American tourists decided to stand up and applaud and wolf whistle, and clap louder than anyone else.
I was sat seven rows from the front in the stalls, so this meant that all the rows behind these selfish visitors (in row six) were deprived of getting a view of the stage. I even saw one member of the cast giving these clowns a disapproving glance.
Perhaps theatre announcers should state the kind of behaviour expected during a performance, as well as advising the audience to please switch off their mobiles.
