Above inflation donation

Published Tuesday 29 July 2008 at 15:05

I am appalled that the Actors’ Benevolent Fund has doubled the membership fee.

The proposal for the increase should never have been allowed on the agenda of the AGM.

Members of our profession are well known for their generosity and many will, perhaps, deny themselves to pay the £10 fee. To increase the fee by 100% is altogether too much.

Surely the financially successful at the AGM know how few members of Equity are in work at any given time.

In my view, it would have been both kinder and more efficient for the AGM to have made the increase voluntary.

I know of those who not only collect in their theatres for Acting for Others but add their donation to the audience’s total.

The relative few who attend the AGM is indicative of those who cannot afford the fare to it.
