I am not surprised that the musical Hairspray has gone into profit so quickly. I booked over the internet a £40 (plus commission) seat in the grand circle for a Thursday matinee. On arrival at the theatre - after climbing what seemed like 100 stairs - I found myself in what I always called the balcony. The seats, which were crammed together so tightly my knees were practically touching my chin, were more uncomfortable that the cheapest economy airline. After two and half hours, it’s a wonder I did not develop blood clots. The management and the theatre owners should be ashamed at charging such prices - it’s a disgrace.

The show was good, but not worth the suffering.
