Toasting tradition

While I admire Mr Dolon’s efforts to change the culture of West End musical theatre by installing a gym at the Dominion (News, page 3, May 29), it seems to me to be just another sad step towards the Americanisation/Disneyfication of London theatre.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the attitude of a well known West End pit drummer who, whenever I would meet him in the pub before the “half”, would greet me with a smile and the words: “My dear sir. Just having a little sharpener - don’t want to go on blunt.”
