Sparing a thought

As a mere theatregoer who arrives, takes his seat and then expects the production to run smoothly, it did me good to read your Backstage article on what makes a good stage manager.

Your next page told of the difficulty the RSC had in finding a London home for their Histories, and its arrival at the Roundhouse - full of backstage problems.

The next time I sit in my comfortable seat, I shall give a quick thought for what has gone into putting the show on and keeping it running. Then forget all about it and watch what they have prepared for me.
