Lack of talent

Published Thursday 20 March 2008 at 12:45

I read with interest Paul Vale’s review of Jo Brand’s performance in the new production of The Pirates of Penzance at the Gielgud (February 28, page 22), in which he refers to her apparent lack of talent in the acting, singing or dancing department and how it brings the proceedings to an unworthy low, calling it: “Car crash operetta”. I only hope that the show’s management and others out there will take heed of such an honest critic, and think long and hard before they ever consider casting someone like Ms Brand again, whom it appears does not have the necessary attributes to take on a role in a production such as this one, that requires genuine talent of an all-round musical nature.
