Microphone reliance
How can we possibly assess the talents of Marias when they are all relying on microphones attached to their heads? They will find it very different when singing in the vast expanse of the London Palladium. Julie Andrews and Mary Martin did not resort to microphones in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, eight times a week. A television studio is a totally artificial place in which to assess prospective artists.
