Why Sevenoaks fears?

Published Tuesday 22 August 2006 at 10:45

I am writing concerning the threatened closure of the Sevenoaks Playhouse (August 10, page 5). Why are there “fears” that it could revert to being an amateur venue? Considering that the King’s Theatre Southsea, Worcester Swan and the Bridewell have all been kept alive as working theatres by the amateur sector, surely it should be cause for celebration that amateur theatre companies are stepping in to save theatres from closure, rather than seeing them sold off to developers and turned into pubs or luxury apartments?
