Chit Chat - Hurst’s hurts

Published Thursday 15 September 2005 at 15:15

Equity’s four-horse race to become general secretary has now been reduced to three, with the news that Andy ‘David Brent’ Prodger has lost his shot at the big time. Christine ‘Pedigree’ Payne pipped him at the post to become the council’s chosen one by a mere 15 votes out of 40, with Lorne ‘Bagpipes’ Boswell sandwiched somewhere in between.

However, we must not forget about the fourth, for no, indeed, Clive ‘Walk-on’ Hurst is also in the running to become Equity’s latest head honcho.

Clive, however, believes he has been put at a disadvantage by the Equity council’s decision not to grant him an interview for the role of council candidate. He is requesting that before the election proper gets into full swing the powers that be make it clear that all three candidates remaining - Payne, Boswell and Hurst - meet the criteria required for such an interview.

“All I’m asking is that I’m not put at an unfair disadvantage,” he explains. “I want a level playing field.” And who can blame him?
