Don’t gamble with Blackpool

Published Tuesday 16 November 2004 at 09:45

Having spent many happy times in Blackpool with my late parents, I should like to express a great concern I have about the proposed plan to turn the city into a major gambling resort.

I care very much about Blackpool and I am concerned about the impact the changes will have on its theatres, especially the Winter Gardens, which I fear will go to make way for a casino. In my opinion the loss of that wonderful building, or, indeed, the Opera House, Grand or North Pier Pavillion, would be catastrophic and I strongly urge the powers that be in Blackpool to think very carefully about their actions.

I am not against the idea of Blackpool moving forward - but not at the expense of its wonderful theatres that must continue for future generations to appreciate.
