Talons are out on Broadway, if reports are to be believed. According to the New York Post, Scott Rudin, who was due to produce Clybourne Park in the city, has pulled the plug on it after something of a spat with writer Bruce Norris.
Norris was recently cast for his acting talents in a pilot of a TV adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s The Corrections, which Rudin is also producing. But, the story goes that, after three months of negotiations, Norris pulled out and shortly after Rudin pulled the play.
According to Tabard’s ears on the ground at the Post, Norris’ reasoning went something along the lines of, “I don’t like to do pilots”.
Well, it seems Rudin no longer likes to do Pulitzer Prize-winners.
If the production is indeed in tatters, there remains the thorny problems of cast, production team and theatre owners - who stand to lose all those lovely rent dollars.
If only Tabard had pockets deep enough to reach into them and salvage the production. Indeed, maybe we could save the show and maybe also pick up Norris’ part in the HBO pilot. It seems like a fine solution - better go and dust down our head shot.
