I am writing in agreement with Charles Vance (Opinion, July 8, page 8), that “the lunatics really are running the asylum”.
My husband and 16-year-old daughter recently appeared in a local amateur musical, in which a 15-year-old boy played a principal role. Apart from this boy, children were excluded from the show due to the hassle involved in getting licences for the children and having criminal record bureau checks on chaperones.
During show week, legislation dictated that anyone over 16 could only talk to the 15-year-old boy through a CRB-checked chaperone. According to these rules, should this not have also been the case when he was spoken to on stage and, if so, wouldn’t it have made a funnier show?
