The Stage presents an exclusive interview with Derek Jacobi as he celebrates fifty years as an actor

“If you’ve got the fire in the belly, you’ll make it.”

Currently appearing in King Lear at the Donmar Warehouse, Derek Jacobi recently celebrated fifty years in the industry and has established himself as one of Britain’s foremost stage, television and film actors.

In a new video interview, exclusive to The Stage, he talks about his background, the need for drama schools and how they have taken the place of the repertory system in training young actors, the demands of the modern industry and how he feels that the future of the profession is safe in the hands of a new generation of performers.
